This is the digital release from the historic recording session and summit in 2005 that started The Gathering when Jesse Sharps brought together local legends like Azar Lawrence, Phil Ranelin, Dwight Trible, and Kamau Daáood with members of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, and up-and-coming young lions like Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, and others. As of MLK Day 2022, The Gathering released "Healing Suite" which features a disarming version of Strange Fruit by Dwight Trible, and the powerful and moving title piece of poetry and music from co-founder of The World Stage, Kamau Daaood. Also included is Horace Tapscott's epic "Freedom's Sweet" led by bandleader Jesse Sharps, and Mother by Nate Morgan, the longtime pianist for the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra.
